Tension as four shot dead in Nairobi’s Baba Dogo area
Tension is high in Baba Dogo area, Nairobi after four people were killed by unknown assailants in the wake of Sunday morning.
Bodies of the four were still lying at the scene of the incident at 10am on Sunday, November 19.
A confrontation ensued between the police and local residents who were trying to block security officers from accessing the bodies.
Police were forced to lob teargas canisters to disperse crowds that had milled around the scene, before the bodies were moved to City mortuary.
The bodies were later moved to City mortuary.
While residents blamed the police for the killings, Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome dismissed the claims absolving security agencies from any blame.
Koome said they had received reports of the four killings and another murder incident that occurred in Mukuru Kwa Reuben area, where a man was reportedly stabbed to death Saturday evening.
The police commander further refuted claims that the incidences were as a result of tribal clashes, saying it was a case of mysterious killings that police would probe further.
A public service vehicle was set ablaze by Baba Dogo residents who were protesting the killings. No casualties were reported from the fire incident.
Meanwhile, the Nairobi police commander said security patrols would be increased in Mathare and Baba Dogo areas following the Sunday killings.
