Tension as newborn baby disappears at Machakos Level 5 Hospital

Tension is high at Machakos Level 5 Hospital following the alleged disappearance of a newborn baby at the facility.

Relatives of a woman who delivered at the hospital said they are unable to trace the baby after the woman gave birth on Wednesday at around 12.00 am.

One of the woman’s brothers said nurses at the facility earlier informed his sister that her baby delivered through Cesarean Section died at birth.

“My sister demanded to be shown her baby’s corpse which the hospital’s management failed to provide,” said the brother.

“The hospital’s management instead started dodging the family. This morning we were told that the management would give us a report on the matter at 2.00 pm which they didn’t.”

Confirming the incident, Machakos County Director of Medical Services Dr. Joel Mwova said the matter is under investigation.

“I was given phone number of one of the relatives, I called him to find out what exactly happened but he was in a meeting with heads of other departments. I want to get report from the nurses in charge so that I give you a comprehensive report,” said Mwova.

He noted that a child disappearing in hospital after delivery is a criminal offence.
