Tension high in Laikipia as bandits shoot another cop

Tension remains high in parts of Nyahururu and Laikipia following attacks by suspected cattle rustlers who ambushed security officers Wednesday, February 9 evening injuring a General Service Unit (GSU) officer.

The security officers engaged the raiders in a fierce gun fight at Miteta village in Ng’arua division of Nyahururu Sub County.

The shooting of the GSU officer, who is currently nursing gunshot wounds at a Nyahururu hospital, comes just a day after Laikipia West OCPD, Merengo Moherai, was on Tuesday, February 7 evening shot in the chest by armed bandits as he led a security operation to drive away illegal grazers from one of the ranches.

Mr Moherai and his officers were ambushed by armed suspected cattle rustlers posing as illegal grazers who had invaded the Kifuko ranch.

The OCPD was rushed to Nyahururu Referral Hospital for treatment.

Laikipia West Member of Parliament, Wachira Karani, has since condemned the attacks on the two police officers by cattle rustlers with Nyahururu OCPD, Ezekiel Chepkwony, assuring residents of their safety.
