Police officers in Mombasa County are presently holding a terror suspect also believed to be behind several mugging incidents in Old Town.

Abdallah Hassan Noordin was arrested after he was captured on CCTV mugging two people, one of them a school girl, within a span of only 15 minutes.

Hassan, in the footage, is seen in the company of another yet-to-be-identified man accosting a man on the road in broad daylight and robbing him.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the victim narrated the incident saying: “One of them sprayed my eyes with something, they then took my phone and sprayed my eyes again before running away.”

The two-man gang, a few minutes after accosting the first victim, were yet again caught on CCTV attacking a Coast Girls High School student.

“These are boys who are well known in this area…people know who they are when they see them,” said the student’s mother.

Hassan was arrested in his house on Tuesday in an operation led by Mvita OCPD Eliud Monari who described him as a dangerous criminal with a pending terrorism-related case in court.

“He (suspect) was previously arrested over alleged terror links with Somalia and was arraigned in court. He was however released on bond which was paid by his parents,” said Mr. Monari.

The police boss has now blamed the suspect’s parents for not putting him on the right path after securing his release, further urging other parents in the region to be more vigilant.
