Terrorist leader Luqman, Al Shabaab militant nabbed in Mombasa

Police in Mombasa have arrested two terror suspects, among them Luqman Mohammed Shee, who is believed to be a ring-leader behind killing of police officers and informers in Mombasa.

Luqman has been evading several police dragnets within Majengo and Old Town.

Police say he is known for dressing up in a buibui while conducting his criminal activities to evade police arrest.

Coast Region C.I.D police boss Henry Ondiek says police officers acting on intelligence information ambushed the two at their Majengo house and managed to seize several crude weapons, drugs and a military jacket.

The five are in Al-Shabaab camps in Somalia but intelligence reports have revealed they are planning to sneak into Kenya to carry out attacks.

The report said Shamim Wanjiru Hussein was recruited for a possible suicide-bombing mission and police have now requested the public to provide any information regarding her to avert Al-Shabaab attack plans.

Her husband, Omar Patroba Juma, whose photograph was also circulated, was among terrorists who attacked Baure military camp in Lamu County in June.

The report also identified a former football player with Mathare United, Anwar Yogan Mwok, who in 2013 joined Jaysh Ayman, a group of Kenyan Al-Shabaab fighters and two others, Omar Owiti and Ramadhan Kioko.

Owiti is said to have joined Jaysh Ayman in 2013 and was identified as one of the survivors of the attack at Baure while Kioko joined the terrorist group in 2008 and also took part in the June raid in which 18 terrorists and three soldiers died.

In June, two Al Shabaab members killed during the botched raid in Lamu on Sunday were identified as a British national and a commander who led the Mpeketoni raid last year.

Police named the two as Thomas Evans, the British national and Lugman Osman Issa.

Preliminary investigations showed that Issa led the group of about 200 Al Shabaab members who planned to attack several installations before KDF soldiers raided their camp on Sunday morning.

The death of Issa, who is also known as Shirwa, was seen as a major victory for Kenya because Al Shabaab now lacks a commander in Lamu area.

Although Evans was yet to be identified through DNA tests, military officers and police believed one of the bodies of the dead militants was his.

The 24-year-old British national is said to have left his homeland in 2011 to join Al Shabaab and adopted the name Abdul Hakim after converting to Islam in 2012.

Coordinating County Commander Chrispus Mutila appealed to the public to report any suspicious people or anyone with gunshot wounds.

Mutila has further asked the residents to remain calm, as security has been beefed up.

KDF also managed to recover 2,270 rounds of ammunition of 7.2mm special, 2 icon radios, 2 Al Shabaab flags, 13 AK 47s, 1 pkm machine gun, 1 rpg, 1 rpg war head, 3 grenades, 49 AK-47 magazines and other personal effects.

Two KDF soldiers were also killed and five others injured and evacuated to Nairobi for specialised treatment.
