Tharaka Nithi fires 368 striking nurses

The County Government of Tharaka Nithi has fired more than 300 nurses who have persistently stayed on strike for more than six weeks despite assigning a return to work formula.

Governor Samuel Ragwa declared their positions vacant and called applications for 368 nursing positions.

Governor Ragwa warned the striking nurses against stepping into the health facilities saying, “They won’t be paid even if they return to work.”

“We will not allow our people to suffer while we have already paid them the money they are demanding,” said Ragwa.

Ragwa said the fate of the nurses now lie with county public service board.
