Tharaka residents protest increasing illicit brew

Residents of Kaara village in Tharaka Nithi County on Wednesday staged demonstrations over the increase in second generation alcohol and illicit brews in the area.

This comes just a day after the residents complained of increasing cases of production of the illicit brew.

“We want the county government to take immediate action on this issue or else we will take the matter into our own hands,” threatened the residents.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the residents lamented that their grievances to the authorities were ignored.

“We are worried because the rise in cases of illicit brews has led to increase in social vices such as rape and theft,” one of the residents said.

They are accusing police and county government of abetting the production of the lethal brews.
