Tharaka residents protest over DP Rutos remarks

Angry residents of Tharaka Nithi county held demonstrations at Kathwana on Wednesday over Deputy President William Ruto’s remarks over the location of the county headquarters.

In his speech during a fundraiser at Kaare Secondary School on Friday, November 25, Ruto said the national government had funded several projects in Chuka Town including the Ksh 370 million tarmacking of roads in the town.

But in rejoinder, the residents faulted sections of DP Ruto’s speech that the national government had allocated Ksh 370 million for the tarmacking of the county headquarters, the county’s commercial hub.

They argued that some of the political leaders in the national government were determined to relocate the County headquarters from Kathwana to Chuka town for their own selfish interest.

“It was regrettable to see that all developments had been put in Chuka town such as Huduma Centre, High Court while the county headquarters had continued to be neglected,” said Kathwana market chair, Amos Kathare.

A section of MCAs have promised to push the national government to recognize Kathwana as the County headquarters.
