The counties worst affected by floods

The raging floods have been unforgiving. Since last month when the long rains started, it has been a trail of death and destruction.

The latest statistics from the Kenya Red Cross Society show that at least 64 people have lost their lives while another 33 have sustained injuries of varying degrees.

More than 147,000 people from 27,000 households have been displaced in 29 counties.

With 116,000 people now left homeless, Tana River has the highest number of displacements with multiple villages in Tana North, Madogo, Mulanjo and Mororo areas being left submerged.

In Garissa County 7,250 people are putting up at IDP camps. The most affected residents are in Garissa Town, Ghurufa, Mansabubu, Nanighi and Raya, with one death so far reported.

In the Western part of the country, Kisumu County tops in the list of submerged regions. Over 6,000 persons are now homeless, three have died, with much of the flooding affecting Nyando, Ahero, Muhoroni and Nyamasaria.

In Mandera County, over 4,000 residents have been displaced in Dandu, Eldanaba , and Bulla Hidaya villages.

Still in the North Eastern region 3,105 persons from 690 families in Wajir County are now homeless, most of them being displaced from Korondile, Wajir South, Tarbaj and Wajir North.

In Marsabit, at least two people have died, with the floods flushing over 2,736 people from their homes in Sololo and Funanyatta area.

In Turkana County, one death has been reported and over 2,000 displaced. The floods have spread misery in Turkana East, Turkana Central and Turkana South.
