The Drought Situation In Pokot

The residents are now calling on the government to come to their aid.

Kacheliba member of parliament Mark Lomunokol says the victims of the hunger in West Pokot County, who are mostly pastoralists, urgently need food and water.

West pokot Governor Simon Kachapin says the county lacks capacity to tackle the prolonged drought and is now asking the national government to intervene.

Residents say most areas in Pokot North have been hit by acute famine forcing locals search of food and water.

Some residents have crossed over to neighboring Uganda.

The residents fear they might also lose all livestock if the situation does not change.

Some schools in the area have been forced to close down as children flee with their parents.
