The Hearing Of Killer Brew Case In Embu Aborts

The case against Lucy Wanja, Ann Wangare and Dennis Mutegi Mbae did not take place as defense had not been supplied with photocopies of the prosecution's witnesses' statements.

The three suspects are facing charges of murdering 33 out of the 43 victims.

The lawyer for the accused Mungai Kivuti complained that he had not been supplied with copies of prosecution witnesses’ against Mbae who was arrested after Wanja and Wangare had been earlier charged.

Mungai said he needed the statements to prepare himself to defend his clients.

However, state counsel Doris Ing’ahisu opposed the application for adjournment saying she was ready for the case and had already availed 4 witnesses in the court to kick it off.

Ing’ahisu argued that had prepared 44 witnesses who will prove to the court that the accused murdered the 33 after selling them a drink they knew was adulterated.

The trio have denied 33 counts of murder which allegedly took place on the May 5th after they took a drink laced with methanol poison.

The death prompted the sacking of the then Embu West Sub-county Police boss, Officer Commanding Embu Police station, Deputy Sub-county commissioner and sub-county Administration Police boss for allegedly sleeping on their jobs as the drink was being sold.
