The late Governor Nderitu Gachaguas governorship

Nderitu Gachagua was elected as the first Governor of Nyeri County in the 2013 General Election.

His tenure in office has had memorable moments since taking office.

Gachagua defied the The National Alliance (TNA) Party wave in Central Kenya to clinch the seat on a Grand National Union (GNU) Party.

On May 30, 2016, more than 30 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) accused of attempts to disrupt Governor Gachagua’s rally in Nyeri were thoroughly beaten by irate residents.

Police were forced to intervene to save the ward reps.

On August 2016, an impeachment motion against the ailing governor was tabled in the County Assembly and later passed in a tumultuous session.

MCAs supporting the motion and those in support of the governor exchange blows in the County Assembly.

Some MCAs held a night vigil at the County Assembly chambers, to emphasise the weight of their mission to oust Gachagua.

When summoned by the Senate Public Accounts Committee to defend himself against financial impropriety accusations, Gachagua wittingly tricked the committee to allow him ‘just’ an hour to attend to his private matters only to appear in state house where political parties were merging up to form Jubilee Party.

The entire Senate House later unanimously gave him a clean bill of health to resume his seat.
