The Next Kabete MP Must Fight Alcoholism, Unemployment, Voters Say

The voters say they are looking for a visionary leader who has their interests at heart and who will lead the electorate to prosperity.

Most of the young voters say that they are looking for a leader who will help address the rising unemployment and high rates of alcohol consumption by the youth.

One of the voters, Ndungu Nyambura, told Citizen TV that he was looking for a leader who can propel Kabete forwards in terms of development by addressing joblessness among the youth and fighting alcoholism.

“Sisi tunataka mtu ambaye atasaidia vijana kuachana na hizi pombe za bei rahisi zenye zinaumiza na pia kuua (We are looking for a leader who will help the youth stop drinking cheap liquor that has led to deaths of many of them),” he said.

“Pia tuko na shida ya kazi hapa Kabete. Vijana wengi wanakunyua sababu hawana kazi ya kufanya kila siku, ni vibarua tu. Kama tunaweza saidiwa kuanzisha miradi yetu tunaweza furahia sana (Another big challenge here is unemployment; if we can be helped come up with projects to generate incomes, we can be happy. Employment is the only way to help us come out of the bondage of poverty and alcoholism).”

Another voter, Dan Mwangi – who is also a businessman, said that the incoming leader must address the high levies being charged on businesses by the County Government of Kiambu.

“Shida yetu sisi kama wanabiashara ni zile pesa zinatoswa na serikali ya kaunti. Sisi ambao tuna maduka ya hardware tulikuwa tunalipa shillingi elfu saba (Ksh 7,000), sasa tunalipa shillingi elfu ishirini na tatu (Ksh 23,000) (As business people, we are very oppressed by the rates being imposed by the County Government of Kiambu. As hardware operators, we used to pay Ksh 7,000, now we are paying Ksh 23,000,” he said.

“Pia tunataka kiongozi ambaye atatutengenezea mabarabara na ajenge mashule ili tuendeleze Kabete (We are also looking for a leader who will improve the infrastructure and education in Kabete).”

The voters further want a leader who will represent them ‘faithfully’.
