There are plans to rig KNUT polls-Achola

By George Amolo

Teachers in Rarieda sub-county have accused the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) assistant Secretary General (SG) Mr. Collins Oyuu of planning to interfere with their union branch elections slated for Friday 5th February 2016.

Led by one of the contenders for the branch Executive Secretary post which fell vacant after Oyuu was elected the Assistant SG, Willis Odhach Achola, the teachers claim that there are plans to rig the polls.

Achola has alleged that Oyuu had indicated intentions of compromising those who will preside over the elections to manipulate the results in favor of the former branch Chairman, Mr. George Arek.

The aspirant goes further to state that Oyuu is funding Arek’s campaigns-an action that, he says, proves that Oyuu has vested interests.

Achola, who was speaking during his campaign at Manywanda primary school in Madiany division, has therefore pleaded with the assistant SG to keep off KNUT Rarieda branch elections and allow the teachers in that region to conduct peaceful, free and fair elections.

He claims that the KNUT Rarieda members’ nominal register has already gone missing and they suspect that it has been taken somewhere to be doctored so that the names of nonmembers can also be included with the aim of doctoring the polls that are days away.

The aggrieved contender demanded for list of the bona fide union members to be able to know those who will participate in the elections. Achola has also pleaded with security agencies in the region to remain unbiased in the elections.

The post of KNUT Rarieda branch executive has attracted four contestants including the immediate former Treasurer Robert Onono, Fredrick Ouma, Maurice Nyawanda, the immediate former branch chairman George Arek and Odhach Achola, who was one time the branch chairman.

The union’s campaigns have also intensified in Bondo sub-county. Immediate former Executive Secretary Mr. Gilbert Ndolo Owuor is slated to defend his seat against the immediate former Treasurer Mr. George Ajwang’.
