Student allegedly raped at Moi Girls Kamusinga

Police in Kimilili, Bungoma County, are looking for a teacher from Moi Girls’ Kamusinga School who is alleged to have fled after sexually assaulting a Form Two girl at the school.

This comes barely hours after Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed dissolved Moi Girls School, Nairobi, Board and Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) after demonstrations rocked the school over alleged rape.

Speaking to the press, the 14-year-old Moi Girls’ Kamusinga student said a classmate informed her that the teacher had summoned her and on arrival in the office, the teacher began making advances at her.

“He told me he had missed me and I told him the only relationship I would have with him was teacher-student,” said the girl.

She further narrated that she tried to get out of the office but the teacher called her back and told her that, being the one who had summoned her, only he had the right to allow her to leave.

“That was when he pulled me back in, forcefully bent me over and raped me.”

Confirming the incident, Kimilili Sub-county Assistant Commissioner Reuben Loyotoman said the suspect, identified as Willy Masiokari Wanyonyi, committed the act on the afternoon of Sunday June 3, 2018, at his office within the school’s Chemistry Department.

Loyotoman said the teacher jumped over the fence and fled after committing the act but expressed confidence that he would be brought to book.

The police boss, however, claimed that there might have been consent.

“I think there must have been some consent but since this lady realized that the story has gone out, she now changed the story to be rape, but I think they must have been friends for sometime…from the way we’re getting the whole story,” said the assistant commissioner.

Area OCPD Gladys Rutere urged residents to remain calm saying police were already in pursuit of the suspect who had been employed by the school’s board.
