Thieves break into church, drink altar wine and eat bread

Suspected thieves on Saturday night broke into the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) in Ranen, Awendo  Sub County in Migori County and stole the altar wine, Ostia (altar bread), chalice, baptism jug and sufurias among other items used during service.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi over the phone, the Church Secretary General Mr Collince Otieno said the choice of things that were stolen was perplexing.

“The thieves broke the door and then they took the items that we use in the Holy Communion and baptism”, he said.

Mr Otieno said the suspects either consumed the wine or poured it out because they found the bottle in a maize plantation a few meters from the church.

The items stolen by the suspected thieves, according to him, have undermined some of the important church activities.

They are now appealing to the suspected thieves to return the stolen items, adding they will not victimize them as a church.

Mr Otieno said they have reported the matter to Ranen Administration Police (AP) camp and the area village elder, however, Awendo Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Mr Dan Kinywa said he has not received any report.

The OCPD assured that they would launch an investigation into the matter when the report is filed and urged the church to provide him with the details about the incident.
