Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday shot and killed one suspected robber during a hostage rescue operation in Thika West, Kiambu County.

The man was in a group of four other suspected robbers said to have been holding a family hostage.

According to a tweet posted by the DCI, the suspects fired at the detectives who had responded to the distress call, prompting them to fire back.

“Three (of the robbers) escaped and are being pursued,” reads the tweet. A pistol, knife and a hammer were recovered from the scene during the operation.
