Thika Superhighway to have one lane for PSVs

The Government has designated one lane on the Thika Superhighway for Public Service Vehicles (PSV) to help decongest Nairobi city.

Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia issued the directive on Thursday morning during a meeting with the Senate Roads Committee.

The proposal will see private vehicles such as ambulances and cars belonging to visiting Heads of State use a separate lane.

CS Macharia also said the government may have to relocate the Mai Mahiu-Narok Road following fears that the road lies on a fault line.

This follows the occurrence of fissures along some parts of the road during the rainy season.

He noted that the Government is waiting for a report from the Geology Department which will give a conclusive stanceon the matter.

On the Standard Gauge Railway, Mr. Macharia assured Senate members that construction of phase 2 would not be affected because the LAPSSET project is 40 Kilometres away from the fault line.
