Those talking ill of the late Biwott are ignorant – Uhuru

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, July 20 launched a scathing attack on individuals who talk ill of the late powerful Cabinet Minister, Nicholas Biwott, insisting that they do that out of ignorance.

Nicholas Biwott faced serious accusations from the public domain during his lifetime, with a majority of Kenyans believing that he was used by previous regimes to execute their plans.

One such accusation is the fact that he has been largely linked to the murder of former Foreign Affairs Minister, Robert Ouko, whose body was found dumped in Got Alila.

Speaking during the funeral ceremony of Mr. Biwott, President Kenyatta reiterated that people did not have time to know the real man in him.

“There are some serious accusations that have been laid about Biwott. I want to state today that they have said bad things because they don’t know him. I want to tell you, Biwott’s family, that nobody throws stones on a tree that bears no fruit. Biwott was a tree that bears fruits,” said the President.

However, Deputy President William Ruto hailed Mr. Biwott as a man who had passion and dedication to serve Kenyans in three different regimes especially that of Retired President Daniel arap Moi.

“If history of Moi and his regime will be written at some point, I am very sure that it will have several chapters about Biwott,” said the DP.

Nevertheless, Elgeyo Market Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen, described the late Biwott as a genuine man who was humble, despite the fact that he was rich. According to Murkomen, the self proclaimed ‘total man’ had the interest of the people at heart and worked tirelessly to serve them.

“When I was vying for Senatorial seat in 2013 against Biwott, he never intimidated me with his money during his campaign. He allowed for a fair ground and even when I trounced him finally, he conceded defeat and has since worked with me in matters Elgeyo Marakwet,” explained the Senator.

Matters politics, as usual, ensued in the burial ceremony, with Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago pleading with the electorates to vote for him in the coming August polls.

The governor is facing stiff competition from independent candidate, Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich alias Buzeki, with the latest Infotrack polls released earlier this week indicating that Mandago could lose his seat to the businessman.
