Thousands of passengers, motorists stranded following heavy rains

Over 1000 passengers and motorists plying the Kitale -Lodwar  and the Kitale -South Sudan route were on Friday stranded following heavy rains that destroyed the Kainuk Bridge.

According to the CEC in charge of disaster in Turkana County, Charles Lokyoto, the heavy downpour saw river Turkwell burst its banks destroying the only bridge linking Turkana and other parts of the country.

Motorists were forced to spend the night in the cold as the raging waters wreak havoc.

Lokyoto now says the floods have affected hundreds of residents noting that Letea village in Turkana west is currently submerged in water.

Motorists in the county have since been urged to exercise caution when driving.
