Three arraigned for illegally transferring voters in Eastleigh

 

Three men who were nabbed on Saturday at Eastleigh illegally transferring voters in a guesthouse have been arraigned in court.

The three, Ibrahim Ahmed Haji, Mohammed Ahmed Kanyare, and Nurdin Ahmed Kanyare have been charged with four counts in contravention of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Election Act 2016.

The three are accused of preparing a document purporting to be a register of voters, being in possession of a document purporting it to be a register of voters, aiding in the commission of an offence, and procuring election materials used in connection with elections contrary to the Elections Act 2016.

It is alleged that on 11th Feb 2017 at Maslah Hotel in Eastleigh area, Nairobi Ibrahim Ahmed Haji prepared a black counter book containing names of persons, identification particulars and phone numbers of persons purporting to be a register of voters for Mandera North Constituency.

Mohammed Ahmed Kanyare and Nurdin Ahmed Kanyare are together charged that on the same day in the same hotel aided in the preparation of the said black book for Mandera North Constituency.

The four are further jointly charged with procuring 33 form IDs and 50 blank form IDs used for application of the transfer of voters without authority of IEBC.

They denied the allegations before Nairobi court principal magistrate Francis Andayi and were released on Ksh200,000 cash bail with an alternative bond of Ksh500,000 with a surety of a similar amount.

The case will be heard on the 23rd February and the 13th and 15th of March.
