Three arraigned for stealing Ksh.42,500 airtime

Three suspects were on Tuesday arraigned at the Shanzu Law Courts in Mombasa and charged with electronic fraud.

Victor Kaboru, Benson Thuranira and Edward Kamau Runaru were jointly charged that on October 6, 2018 at Kilifi Township, Kilifi County they caused loss of airtime valued at Ksh.42,500 to Safaricom by interfering with the function of a company system.

The suspects are believed to be part of a cartel that defrauds unsuspecting customers through the sim-swap service.

Appearing before Magistrate David Odhiambo the accused pleaded not guilty.

They were, however, not released on bail as the prosecutor opposed to their release on bail arguing that investigations were still on going. They were remanded at Mtwapa Police Station

The case will be mentioned on October 23.
