Three arrested as G3 rifles stolen from Nandi police station are recovered
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have recovered three firearms and several rounds of ammunition that were stolen from an Administration Police post in Nandi.
Three suspects; Fredrick Khamisi Shivanda (39), Josphat Hinga Kinyanjui (47), Stephen Njoroge Mwangi (44) were arrested on Friday night during the operation conducted by DCI officers across Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Kakamega counties.
According to the DCI, Mr. Shivanda – who is the prime suspect – led the detectives to 47-year-old Gladys Chao who in turn led them to an unoccupied house where 1 G3 riffle and 20 rounds of ammunition had been buried.
Further investigations then led the officers to the 2 other suspects – Mr. Kinyanjui and Mr. Mwangi – who were also arrested and another G3 rifle buried on a farm recovered.
The suspects are presently being held pending arraignment with the rifles and ammunition being kept as exhibits.
The rifles are believed to have been stolen from Kamorwon Administration Police post in Nandi South as cops on duty watched a football match in the nearby trading centre on April 17, 2019.
The gang raided the police post at around 9:30pm and found no cop on the desk as all of them had gone to watch a UEFA Champions League quarterfinal match between Barcelona and Manchester United.
