Three arrested for growing bhang at a mjengo site in Thika
Police in Thika have arrested three middle-aged men at a construction site in Ngoingwa Estate.
The three are reported to have been growing bhang, ostensibly for personal and commercial use.
Photos show several cannabis plants growing vibrantly in crates, a nursery and and several other containers.
The three suspects are said to have taken advantage of the construction site to grow the plants without detection.
According to the Thika Sub-County Deputy Police Commander Daniel Kitavi, officers handling the operation also recovered a stash of items believed to have been stolen elsewhere and hidden within the mansion.
Among those arrested is the property’s caretaker and his two accomplices who are reported to have been cultivating the plants together.
Addressing journalists at Thika Police Station, Kitavi warned people who keep their incomplete construction sites open to unscrupulous people warning that most can become criminal dens.
The arrested will be charged with cultivating the cannabis plant and drugs trafficking.
