Three cars swept, hundreds stranded in Turkana flash floods

Transport activities have been paralysed for more than two days along Kakuma, Lokichogio – South Sudan route following heavy rains that are currently being experienced in Uganda that have led to flash floods in the area.

The floods caused by River Kalobeyei bursting its banks blocked the key road, leaving more than 200 people including children stranded on either side.

No casualties have been reported in the incident that has left passengers stranded without food and shelter.

Long distance lorry driver, Mohamed Amin, blamed the government for his predicament, saying it failed to fulfil its promise of building a bridge. He further appealed for immediate action to alleviate the suffering and allow movement of people.

Festus Muya, a teacher in Turkana West, told Citizen Digital that he had gone to buy end of term exams in Kakuma before the road was swept, adding that he was worried that his school would not be able to sit the end of term exams.
