Three Chinese men in court for robbery with violence in Nairobi

Three Chinese nationals were Thursday arraigned in a Nairobi court and charged with two counts of robbery with violence.

Appearing before Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot, the accused; Wang Liyong, Ye Dalu and Peng Hongwen were charged with robbing Samuel Mbugua Njoroge of a motor vehicle worth Ksh.2.1 million and Ksh.5 million in cash.

The court was told that the accused hijacked Mr. Mbugua on January 10, 2019 at Golf Villas estate along Muchai Drive in Nairobi where they robbed him of a Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle and the money, while threatening to use actual violence on him.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges but were detained in police custody pending a ruling on their release on Friday, March 1, 2019.

The defense counsel pleaded with the court to release the accused on bond, an application that was opposed by the prosecution.

“Your honor this is a complete business rivalry matter, the complainant in this matter is as well charged in a similar matter at Kibra Law Courts where the accused persons before you are set to be witnesses, and the matter herein is just a device to frustrate and prevent the testimony of the accused persons before you.” submitted Royford Mwenda Nkonge, the defense counsel.
