Three dead, 5 hospitalised after consuming concoction from herbalist

Three people died and five others are admitted in hospital after consuming a concoction from a herbalist at Tabani Village in Tongaren Constituency, Bungoma County.

The herbalist reportedly gave the eight people a mixture of herbs claiming it could cure a number of diseases.

The three deceased, including a woman and her mother-in law, died about three minutes after consuming the concoction while the others were rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, with one who was in critical condition being taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Judith Situma, the daughter of one of the deceased women, told Citizen Digital that her mother sought treatment from the herbalist for chest-related complications.

“Mum was my only remaining parent and it is sad we lost her. I don’t know what happened because it was not the first time she had visited the herbalist. We are baffled and actually don’t know what to do next,” said Ms. Situma.
