Three dead after river sweeps road in Turkana

Three people have been confirmed dead after being swept by Kalemchuch River along the Kakuma- Lokichogio road.

Among the three, two were refugees at Kakuma camp who had boarded a Proboxvehicle before it was swept away.

Turkana west District Officer Samwel Osodo confirmed the deaths saying three other people had escaped death by a whisker after their truck carrying building materials to Kakuma plunged into the same flooded river.

“Two people including the driver were rescued by local swimmers and were rushed to Lodwar referral Hospital for first Aid,” the DO said.

This comes barely two weeks after another truck transporting goods worth millions to Kakuma was swept by raging flood waters at the same place.

The truck has since remained covered by water, making efforts to offload the luggage and pull out the truck difficult.

Enock Amario, the driver, said the truck was carrying building materials to Lodwar town when it was swept by floods.
