Three dead, two injured in grisly road accident at Salgaa

Three people perished while two others were seriously injured on Saturday night in a road accident at the notorious Salgaa black spot along Nakuru- Nairobi highway after a bus hit a saloon car that was parked by the roadside.

The injured passengers were rushed to the Nakuru General Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

This comes just a day after yet another accident claimed five lives on the spot while three others sustained injuries at the same place.

The accident occurred after a speeding private car collided head-on with a bus that was headed in the opposite direction.

In October, the National Transport Authority expressed concern over the rising number of fatal accidents caused by private vehicles, saying there had been a 5 per cent increase in 2015 compared to 2014.

NTSA attributed the increase in number of accidents to human error, speeding, overtaking, drunk driving and the use of undesignated areas to drop passengers.

Figures released by the transport body show 3,037 people died as of December 29th 2015 compared to 2,886 deaths in the same period last year.

Pedestrians accounted for 1,338 of the total deaths followed by passengers at 658 while the number of motorcycle operators who died in road accidents was 434.
