Family of four escapes death after arsonists set their house ablaze

A family in Siaya County escaped death by a whisker after their grass thatched house was torched by suspected arsonists on Saturday midnight.

Nicholas Ouma, his wife and their two children escaped death after they climbed through the roof and jumped out of the burning house during the midnight incident at Oboch village in Alego/Usonga sub-county.

According to Ulafu sub-location assistant chief Rachael Anyango Meso, unknown people attacked the family in the middle of the night and demanded that they open the door, to which they declined.

Anyango says it was then that the suspected arsonists locked the door from outside and doused the house with petrol before setting it ablaze.

She added that the unknown arsonists then fled as Ouma and his wife pulled out some grass from the roof and managed to climb out for safety together with their two children.

Confirming the incident, the area administrator stated that the family escaped unhurt even as everything in the house, including a motorcycle, was burnt to ashes.

She stated that they have already launched investigations to identify and arrest the suspects, further appealing to members of the public to help them with information that can lead to the arrest of the culprits.
