Three injured as commuters fell wall in Likoni

Three people were injured when a wall collapsed on them in Mombasa County Friday night after chaos erupted along Likoni channel.

Trouble ensued at 10 pm after three of the five ferries that usually carry commuters and vehicles across the channel broke down.

Hundreds were stranded and commuters jostled for space on the only ferry available.

According to Likoni OCPD Willy Simba, the three were injured after those waiting for the ferry at the waiting bay pushed the wall.

The three are nursing broken limbs at Coast General Hospital.

Simba says the situation at the waiting bay is still chaotic as commuters are furious with the ferry management following the closure of services at Mtongwe ferry that resulted in passenger congestion at Likoni ferry crossing.

In March this year several people were injured in a stampede at the same location.

The stampede was caused by congestion as only two ferries, MV Kilindini and MV Harambee were operational.
