Three Kenyans face fresh terrorism charges in Uganda

Three Kenyans and two Ugandans will now face fresh charges of terrorism in Ugandan court Thursday afternoon.

Omar Awudh Omar, 42, a Kenyan businessman and a resident of Hurlingham in Nairobi, Mohammad Hamid Sulaiman, 40, South C, Yahya Sulaiman Mbuthia, 45, resident of Ngong Road, together with two Ugandans:  Abubakar Batemyetho and Dr Ismail Kalule, face charges of conspiracy to commit terrorism contrary to Section 25 of the Anti Terrorism Act 2002 of the Ugandan law.

The charge sheet indicates that the 5, together with others still at large, were between the 1^st of March 2016 and the 16^th of March 2016, at Jinja, for purpose of influencing the government or intimidating the public, or a section of the public and for a political and religious aim, unlawfully had in their possession, materials for promoting terrorism with written materials.

The five had been found not guilty to terrorism charges following the 2010 Kampala bombings that left 78 people dead and several others injured but they were re-arrested immediate and detained in Nalufenya police station in Jinja, 150km, East of Kampala.

The Nalufenya detention center boasts of a hi-tech detention center for terror suspects.
