Three killed in another Githurai bus accident

Three people died while 34 others sustained injuries following an accident involving a Githurai Sacco bus transporting passengers to Kitui on a temporary license to ply the long distance travel.

The ill-fated bus lost control and overturned at dreamland area in Matuu along the Thika-Kitui highway.

Yatta OCPD Edward Changach confirmed the incident, adding that a manhunt had been launched for the bus driver who disappeared immediately after the accident.

National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officers who arrived at the scene for the rescue operation were attacked by a section of locals who accused them of failing in their mandate to keep the roads safe.

The injured were rushed to Kitui County Refferal Hospital where some were treated and discharged.

Another Githurai Sacco bus killed a police officer after it rammed into a roadblock at Kericho-Sotik highway on Monday.

The bus, which was ferrying passengers from Nairobi to Kisumu on a temporary license, also hit a trailer before landing in a ditch leaving 31 passengers seriously injured.

The accident adds to the over 180 lives that have lost in road accidents since December 1.
