Three killed in Eldoret  Nakuru highway accident

Three people have been reported dead in a road accident at Salgaa along the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

Confirming the incident, Rift Valley Traffic Commandant Mary Omari said the accident occurred at Salgaa Bridge when a truck heading to Nakuru from Eldoret lost control and hit two trucks parked along the road.

The accident comes days after 62 passengers managed escaped death by a whisker after a bus they were travelling rammed into a trailer before bursting into flames near Chepsiri market along the Kericho – Nakuru highway.

According to the Kericho County Police Commander Rose Muchuma, the driver of the bus belonging to Modern Western Coach had attempted to overtake the lorry but realized an oncoming car forcing him to swerve back to his lane accidentally ramming into the stationary lorry.

Both the bus and the lorry were heading to Nakuru from Kericho at the time of the accident.

Kericho County police commander Rose Muchuma confirmed the incident that occurred near the Chepsiri trading centre at a steep slope, a place witnesses have termed as a black spot.

Police and Red Cross personnel worked fast to save lives and secure property at the scene of the accident as fire fighters from the County Government of Kericho helped put out the fire.

The injured, who included the two drivers, were rushed to various hospitals in Kericho town.

The ill-fated wreckage of both truck and bus were towed to the Kericho Police station as investigations into the accident commenced.
