Three killed, others injured as sand mine collapses in Makueni

Three people died on Tuesday morning after a sand mine crumbled on them as they were loading sand near River Muvai in Makueni.

County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim confirmed the incident saying two other labourers had been rushed to hospital after sustaining injuries.

A rescue team was deployed to the site amid fears that several other people had been buried in the mine, which caved in Monday night.

Mr. Maalim warned that it was illegal to mine sand at night.
