Three killed, three seriously injured in two separate accidents on Embu-Mwea highway

Three people were killed, and three others were seriously injured in two separate road accidents on the Embu-Mwea highway in Kirinyaga County yesterday evening.

According to Mwea-east sub-county police commander Daniel Kitavi, the first accident occurred at Gwa Kariba bridge near Difathas trading centre when a lorry driver lost control and collided with a motorcycle rider.

“The boda boda rider died on the spot while his passenger was pronounced dead on arrival at Kimbimbi sub-county hospital,” Kitavi said.

According to the Mwea-east police chief, a second incident occurred at Murubara when a saloon car traveling to Embu from Ngurubani lost control and collided with a motorcycle rider traveling to Ngurubani from Red Soil Trading Centre.

The motorcyclist died on spot while the three occupants of the saloon car were rushed to Kimbimbi sub-county hospital with serious injuries

“The saloon car driver was on a road test when the accident happened ,im told his co driver a lady wanted him to avoid incoming tractor when the accident happened,” Kitavi added.

Wang’uru police are looking for the driver of the saloon car who vanished after being taken to Kimbimbi hospital with serious injuries.

Locals living along the route, led by Susan Wambui, voiced concern that the increasing number of accidents on the Mwea-Embu highway will claim the lives of residents if the problem was not handled quickly.
