Three arrested for posing as Kenya Power staff in Kisii

Three suspected conmen were arrested in Kisii for allegedly posing as employees of Kenya Power and Lighting Company, calling their customers and demanding money from them.

The three; Jerald Gesuma Ondieki, Beutah Nyamongo Mangera and Victor Shem Nyamato were nabbed by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) working in collaboration with Kenya Power security officers.

During the arrest, one HP laptop, 9 mobile phones and a customers contact list were recovered from the suspects.

The suspects are currently at Kisii police station awaiting to be arraigned in court.

Meanwhile, KPLC has urged their customers to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the nearest KPLC offices.

“The arrests come at a time when the company has heightened security operations to stamp crimes affecting power supply such as illegal connections and vandalism, among others. KPLC will continue carrying out surveillance across the network and any person found culpable will be arrested,” said the company’s Ag. Security Manager Stephen Mumo.
