Three more bodies retrieved from Kwa Muswii River after lorry was swept by floods

Three more bodies have been retrieved from Kwa Muswii River in Makueni County where a lorry lost control while carrying locals and ballast on Friday.

This brings the number of deaths from that incident to 8, with reports indicating that 10 more people cannot be accounted for. A total of 14 others have been rescued and treated.

The death toll from floods across the country has since risen to 82.

On Friday, three people drowned in Machakos after the swollen Tindanda River swept away their vehicle.  The three are a man and his wife together with their neighbour.

They were swept away by floods while on their way home from Yaitha Market. One person is still missing from the incident.

The heavy downpours that are currently being experienced in several counties have left hundreds of others confused and desolate with no hope for tomorrow; women, children and the elderly are left without shelter during this harsh cold weather.

Mororo village in Tana River is flooded with residents moving to set up camp next to the highway in the search for safety.

Transport is paralysed along the Nairobi-Garissa highway which was partly swept away by floods leaving buses full of passengers and trucks full of food and other critical supplies stranded and unable to reach their destinations.

In Kirinyaga County, 750 families are counting losses after their houses were hit by raging floods.

Residents of Kaproron, Kapsisi, Kameza, and Chelingwa villages in Elgeyo Marakwet County are facing massive losses after a bridge connecting the Kameza and Chelingwa villages collapsed due to the ongoing heavy rains in the area.

Elsewhere in Baringo County, the national government and Baringo County government have urged residents to be cautious as heavy rains continue to pound the region. The county is prone to floods and landslides, which can lead to loss of life, livestock, and property damage.
