Three more suspects in Nairobi businessman assault case surrender

Three more suspects linked to the assault of former Nairobi Central Business District Association (NCBDA) chairman Timothy Muriuki have surrendered to the police.

The three – only identified by their aliases Swaleh, Manyange and Roni – turned themselves up at Central Police Station in Nairobi on Tuesday afternoon.

They were accompanied by a lawyer who declined to give details on their surrender.

This comes barely a day after another accused, Brian Shem Owino, turned himself in at Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi on Monday afternoon.

Owino’s surrender came after a High Court ruling declined anticipatory bail to stop the arrest of the five men caught on camera assaulting Muriuki during press conference at a Nairobi hotel on April 30, 2018.

Owino was moved to Central Police Station where he spent the night before being arraigned in court on Tuesday morning and charged with robbery with violence.

Owino, together with the other four – Dishon Mulinge, Ronald Otieno, Michael Mbanya Wathigo and Hussein Suleiman – had moved to court seeking anticipatory bail on Friday but their prayers were rejected.

He was released on a cash bail of Ksh.200,000 and his case will be mentioned on May 23.
