Three NLC staffers want Swazuri, 6 committee members jailed

Three National Land Commission (NLC) officers now want the Chairperson Muhammad Swazuri and six other committee members to be committed to six months civil jail.

Dr. Salome Munubi, Dr. Fibian Lukalo and Francis Mugo accuse Prof. Swazuri of attempting to unlawfully change their terms of employment from permanent and pensionable to contract.

On January 24, 2019, the court issued orders that the applicants’ terms of employment remain permanent and pensionable as they were since May 2018.

The court, while issuing the order, further directed the commission’s acting Chief Executive Officer to circulate and implement it.

The applicants, however, alleged that the contemnors convened a meeting on or about January 25, 2019 and decided not to implement the said order until, the “commission gives a way forward.”

The three officers now want the court to summon the respondents including Abigael Mbagaya Mukolwe, Emma Njogu, Brian Ikol, Edmond Gichuru, Antipas Nyanjwa and Kabale Tache, to explain why they should not be committed to civil jail for disobeying court order.
