Three plane crash survivors recovering, being treated at same hospital

Three survivors of the devastating plane crash late on Monday night are staying in Somer Hospital in Colombia’s Rionegro for treatment.

Two are Bolivian members of the flight crew and the other is a Brazilian football player.

According to Ana Maria Gonzalez, president of the hospital, the vital signs of the two Bolivians – stewardess Ximena Suarez and mechanic Erwin Tumiri – are stable at the moment.

She said that Erwin is suffering minor injuries and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon.

However, Alan Ruschel, the 27-year-old footballer from the Brazilian team Chapecoense, is receiving intensive treatment.

“He is now in serious but stable condition. He has suffered injuries to the spine and has gone through a successful surgery. Now he is recovering. He has not lost his muscle functions so we don’t think such skills will be affected in the future,” she said.

Family members of Ximena and Alan are already at the hospital.

Brazilian team Chapecoense were on their way to a championship final in Medellin, Colombia, when the LMI2933 charter flight went down just kilometers from the destination airport.

Six people survived, including three football players, two members of the flight crew, and a sports reporter.
