Three Pupils Perish In Dormitory Fire

Three Pupils Perish In Dormitory Fire

According to the school headteacher Gabriel Korir, the three perished trying to salvage their property when the smoke and flames overwhelmed them.

However, no injuries were reported in the 2am incident as the other pupils were evacuated from the dormitory.

The three who perished, were aged eight, nine and ten years and were in standard one, three and four respectively.

Area chief James Kosgei, who arrived at the scene few minutes after the fire broke out, said that property of unknown value was reduced into ashes as nothing was salvaged.

The fire is said to have started from one corner of the boys’ dormitory where 95 pupils were sleeping.

Residents have called on the County Government of Nandi, under Governor Cleophas Langat, to urgently procure fire fighting equipment to help deal with such disasters in the future.

The school has been closed indefinitely as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
