Three school girls among them Class 7 pupil rescued after getting married in Kirinyaga

Police in Kirinyaga County have rescued three students from early marriage in Gichugu Constituency.

Speaking on Thursday morning, Gichugu Sub-county Police Commander Anthony Mbogo said two of girls are in secondary school while the third one is a Class Seven pupil.

The two girls aged 17 years were expected to resume learning after schools reopened but they had reportedly been forced into marriage by their parents during the long break occassioned by Covid-19.

“Gichugu children officer has already arrested their parents who hail from Karumandi village,” said the police boss.

The two students aged 17 years were taken to a local children’s home together with their newborn babies.

The third girl, who is a Class Seven pupil, got married on Sunday to a 36-year-old man, who has since been arrested.

“The suspect Moses Wachira Gitimu is being held at Kianyaga Police Station while the girl has been taken to a children’s home,” said the police commander.

The girl is reported to have gone missing on Sunday after allegedly telling her mother she was going to church.
