Three shot dead in Migori

Three people including a suspected cattle rustler were Tuesday night shot dead in botched attack at Ragana village in Suna West sub county, Migori County.

Boniface Kich and his wife Bentar Auma were shot dead by four armed cattle rustlers before police came in and gunned down one suspect.

Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge said an AK47 rifle was recovered from the felled suspect who was shot during a fire exchange with the police.

Mr. Nthenge said the four cattle rustlers had raided two homes including that of the deceased and were trying to escape with four cows when the police officers waylaid them killing one of the raiders on the spot.

The police commander confirmed that a manhunt had been launched for the suspects who escaped.

According to the police boss, Mr. Kich died on the spot while his wife Bentar succumbed to her injuries at Migori Level Four Hospital while undergoing treatment.

Mr. Nthenge vowed to heighten a crackdown on cattle rustlers, urging residents to volunteer information that would aid police in reigning in the criminals.

Meanwhile, one cow of the stolen was recovered on Wednesday morning following a collaboration between police and the residents.

The police commander said the cow was deserted by the road when the raiders realised police were catching up with them.
