Three students held in Siaya over arson attack

Three students are being held at Siaya Police Station after they were arrested in connection with the recent fire incident that razed down a dormitory at Bishop Okoth Mbaga Girls Secondary School in Alego/Usonga sub-county.

According to Siaya OCPD, Ancient Kaloki, the three girls are part of a number of students who were taken to the station for interrogation following the fire incident that destroyed property worth millions of shillings.

The police boss revealed that the three were detained so as to take their handwriting specimens as well as their statements for investigations to compare with a letter that was found in the school’s suggestion box and addressed to the principal.

Kaloki stated that there was a three-page threatening letter that was found in the school’s suggestion box, and that it was addressed to the principal indicating that the first two incidents were just a taste of what is yet to come.

On the letter, it was indicated that the students were planning a more serious assault on the institution that will either destroy the entire administration block and the dormitories, or will see students burn to death in the dormitories.

The letter also warned the principal and another female teacher against harassing the students during investigations.

Only one bed was destroyed in the first fire incident, before a 100-bed capacity dormitory was destroyed in the second fire incident in a span of two days.

The OCPD appealed to the parents to assist with investigations by talking to their children who may confide in them the perpetrators of the fire incidents.
