Three students suspended for stealing chapatis from school canteen

Three students at Chulaimbo Boys Secondary School in Kisumu County have been suspended for allegedly stealing chapatis from the canteen.

The three, who are all in Form Three, were handed two-week suspensions by the school management over the alleged incident.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, a guardian of one of the boys – who sought anonymity – said she was summoned to the school on Wednesday by the deputy principal over the conduct of her son.

Upon arriving at the institution, she narrated, she was reportedly informed that her son was part of a racket that has been stealing chapatis from the canteen.

She said she was informed that the boy, alongside two others, was caught red-handed next to the school canteen with the intention of breaking in.

She also added that, according to the school authorities, the canteen has been losing close to 200 chapatis a week under mysterious circumstances.

The guardian, after much back and forth, finally took home her son and was informed that the school committee will decide his fate after which she will be notified via phone call.

Kisumu West sub-county Education Officer Mary Moraa Ochoe expressed shock at the incident saying it did not warrant such a decision, further promising to reach out to the school management.

The school deputy principal who issued the incident was, at the time of publishing, yet to receive phone calls or respond to text messages.
