Three suspected kidnappers were Friday morning arrested and a female victim rescued in a police operation in Ruiru area of Kiambu County.

The three, who include a woman, had kidnapped a female passenger who was waiting to board a Matatu along the Eastern bypass and demanded a ransom of Ksh 200,000.

Police say the family of the woman managed to send Ksh 15,000 to the kidnappers as they waited for the balance to release her.

A team of detectives from Special Crimes Prevention Unit tracked the gang to the Nakuru-Nairobi highway where they found the woman blindfolded and a piece of cloth stuffed into her mouth but alive.

According to the police, the three kidnappers have been tied to at least five such cases and are being held at Ruiru Police Station.

Police want anyone who has been a victim to go and help in identifying them.

The head of Special Crimes Prevention Unit Noah Katumo said the woman was kidnapped on Thursday evening.

He added that they also recovered a masking tape from the car that the gang has been using in tying their victims to effect their mission
