Three suspects in court over alleged terror attack plan on Madaraka Day

Three suspects were on Monday arraigned in a Nairobi court over an alleged plan to commit a terror attack during Madaraka Day Celebrations in Narok County.

Adan Galhai alias Urisha Galhai and Thomas Okan alias Mbuta were detained for 10 days to allow police complete investigations while the third suspect; Abdulmajeed Njenga alias Abdulaziz, will be detained for seven days.

Adan was arrested on Friday, May 31, 2019 by military officers at Narok Stadium on suspicion of engaging in terrorism activities. He is said to be a resident of Eastleigh in Nairobi and is suspected to have links with the Al-Shabaab terror group.

At the time of the arrest, Adan is said to have been in possession of identification cards bearing the names of ‘National Security’.

On the other hand, Okan was arrested on June 1, 2019 in Mlango Kubwa estate within Nairobi County on suspicion that he was in constant communication with Adan.

The third suspect; Abdulmajeed Njenga, is said to have travelled from Kiembeni, Mombasa to Narok Stadium. Upon interrogation he could not explain his presence at the stadium.

He was arrested by military officers on Madaraka Day.

Meanwhile, in a different affidavit, another terror suspect identified as Issa Chacha was arrested on Sunday, June 2, 2019 by police officers at St. Mark Anglican church.

The applications to detain the suspects for more time were presented before Milimani Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko.
