Three suspects linked to murder of Egerton University student freed on Ksh.400K bond
Three suspects linked to the murder of Egerton University student, Eunice Muthoni Njeri have been released on a bond of Ksh.400,000 bond by a Nakuru court.
Nakuru Principal Magistrate Lilian Arika ruled that the prosecution side did not give compelling reasons to continue detaining the three, Erick Mutuma, Diana Muthiomi and Tamar Njeru for 14 days.
This after a miscellaneous application was filed by police on Monday seeking to detain the suspects to conduct a mental assessment, identification parade, and collect DNA samples for analysis.
Principal magistrate Lilian Arika further ordered the suspects to avail themselves to the nearest police station whenever required while noting that the bond terms will expire upon formal charging of the suspects.
The three who are close friends of the deceased were arrested last week following a series of investigations that linked them to the murder of their friend.
One of the friends Diana Muthiomi suspected that the deceased was engaged in a love affair with her husband Eric Mutuma.
The lifeless body of the 22-year-old was discovered dumped in River Subuku, Njoro, Nakuru County on the 7th of December 2020.
An autopsy conducted on the body revealed that the University student was strangled before her body was dumped.
The case will be mentioned on the 10th of March.
