Three teens released on Sh1m bond each over robbery with violence

Three youths who were arrested in Mombasa County on Monday and charged with engaging in robbery with violence were on Tuesday released on a Sh1 million bond each by a Mombasa court.

Mohamed Ibrahim Shee, Hassan Aman Ali and Sadan Hassan Ashuu, who are all under 20, were allegedly part of a gang that has been harassing Mombasa residents.

The suspects, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi, allegedly attacked and robbed Mohamed Abdulrahman off two mobile phones worth Sh115,000 on July 18, 2015 at Buxton area in Mombasa Island.

On the same day, the accused reportedly robbed Mohamed Mohamed Salam off his wrist watch and other valuables amounting to Sh40,000.

The three also face additional charges of being in possession of drugs.

They all denied the charges and were released on a Sh1 million bond and a surety of a similar amount.

This comes just a day after Lamu county government installed CCTV cameras along the sea front to enhance security in the area as well as improve monitoring of beach operations.

The case is set for hearing on August 21, 2015.
